WM: How has your search for Niko been going?
YM: I believe I've found a potential lead on their home dimension.
YM: Of course, given the infinite scope of the multiverse, I need to find the right Niko. WM: It's hard to imagine the idea that everything that happened with Niko has happened over and over with other Nikos and other, well, World Machines.
YM: There's a strange kind of... comedy, perhaps, in that the Old World was lost yet countless versions of the smaller-scale simulation still live on. WM: Ha. Well, you've certainly got your work cut out for you. WM: When you find the Niko we knew, I hope the three of us can all talk again under better circumstances.
YM: If they're willing (and I have no reason to doubt they would be), I'll make sure of it.
YM: Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be able to share their mom's pancakes with you.

Informational Articles:
A Short Introduction to the Ketsui Initiative
The Ketsui Initiative is a multiversal humanitarian organization with the mission of providing support to individuals or groups "fated" to suffer without recourse or hope, "fated" to fail in attempts of protection or saving their world—or to only do so at pyrrhic cost.
After an initial period of surveillance to identify the relevant individuals or groups, contact is made and assistance offered. Allowing for the natural cynicism and skepticism, the offer of assistance remains open even if initially snubbed. Types of assistance include logistical, combat, emotional, investigational, and more.
While joining the organization to "pay things forward" is lightly encouraged, it is by no means required. For some, their interaction with the Ketsui Initiative begins and ends with whatever journey or crisis led to contact in the first place. For others that desire to keep in contact, join the organization but commute from their home universe, or even just travel to other worlds as a visitor, arrangements can be made on a case by case basis.
Those who wish to leave their former lives behind (due to persecution, necessity, or just plain wanderlust) can freely immigrate to Initiative-controlled territories, primarily settlements on otherwise uninhabited worlds or within pocket universes. Whether or not an individual chooses to join the Initiative as an organization or if they just live unaffiliated lives in one of these many settlements is their perogative.
Happiness has to be fought for, but you don't have to fight for it alone.
Organizational Divisions of the Ketsui Initiative
Outreach Division
"Remember who you fight for."
Often the first division an outsider will come into contact with, Outreach specializes in public-facing and diplomatic roles such as embassy staffing as well as serving as adjunct to members of Delta Divison, handling dissemination of information and potential recruitment offers to locals.
While trained in self-defense for emergency situations, members of this division are considered noncombatants and expected to act as such.
Research Division
"Salvation through Innovation."
Serving a support role for matters both internal and external, this divison specializes in Research & Development of any and all—depending on specific subdivision—technologies both civilian and military in nature.
They are held to stringent ethical standards in exchange for otherwise lenient choice of research subject and supplies of materials and funding.
Civil Division
"Build The World Worth Living In."
Composed of sociological, psychological, and engineering experts, the Civil Division primarily exists for two reasons.
Due to the fact that the Initiative's work makes contact with refugees or prospective immigrants, there is an established need for both physical settlements and the apparatus of government to run said settlement and interact with other polities, including the Initiative itself.
The Civil Division has two primary subdivisions. The former is skilled at planning and construction of settlements of various scales in all sorts of enviroments, such as:
Fully artificial habitats, such as underground complexes or space stations
Self-sufficient micro-universes
Conventional settlements in a variety of climates and geography
The latter subdivision offers expert advisement on the material and logistical realities of political systems and the creation thereof, allowing the population to cross-reference real data to help avoid the usual teething problems of the formation of a brand new government.
Delta Division
"Write A New Ending."
The letter "Delta" is a symbol of change. The Delta Division is the primary apparatus of the Ketsui Initiative's mission, actively intervening in the many many worlds of the multiverse to tip the scales where evil, cruelty, and oppression would otherwise win or only be defeated at pyrrhic cost.
Though trained in combat due to the existence of those unable or unwilling to be negotiated with, it is made quite clear that violence—while never off the table entirely—should seldom be the first resort.
The Four Virtues
There are four primary virtues that flow into one another and inform the ethos of the Ketsui Initiative. They are not qualities innate to the self, but rather aspirational ones that must be actively strived towards.
The Hope for a Better Tomorrow
The path to change begins with HOPE. HOPE is of LIGHT, and is the foundation of all, for without hope, what point is there in action?
The Determination to Secure your Dream
HOPES and DREAMS are the two halves of BELIEF.
One of LIGHT. One of DARK. Fuel and Form. Together, they hold infinite potential. It is through the spark of Determination that potential blooms into reality.
The Kindness to Accept The Repentant
An open hand is offered to those who truly wish to change. Attaching strings to forgiveness is manipulative.
However, do not mistake Kindness for Appeasement. Accepting those who atone does not mean excusing those who wish to continue evil, nor does it mean prioritizing the latter over the innocent.
The Choice to Decide your Future
Self-Determination—freedom of choice—is sacrosanct to the Ketsui Initiative.
No one's fate is predefined. Everyone deserves the freedom to choose who they are in this world. You have the right to decide your own future.
The Ketsui Calendar System
The multiplanetary nature of the Ketsui Initiative births problems for conventional dating systems, which are largely based around the measurement of celestial phenomena from the point of view of a single planet.
As if to make matters more complicated, the Initiative is not only multiplanetary but multiversal, meaning that timestreams may be desynced between two universes.
To simplify logistics and scheduling in the face of these complications, the Initiative simply uses a mathematical calendar unrelated to celestial phenomena. A short explanation of the system is written below.
Each day in the Ketsui Initiative is based on the statistically average length of a day on various versions of Earth—that is to say, 24 hours, or 86400 seconds.
Each week is six days long, with the names of the days of the week listed below:
Preday
Rinday
Kalday
Verday
Musday
Enday
There are five weeks to a month, for a total of 30 days per month. There are twelve months in a year, for a total of 360 days per year.
While divorced from the processes that naturally cause them, seasons are still represented as three-month subdivisons of the year. Each year begins with the first month of Spring, and ends with the last month of Winter.
The names of the months are as follows:
Novastra - Beginning of Spring, and the year
Baryosis
Ionima
Photurau - Beginning of Summer
Chromali
Coronin
Accreti - Beginning of Autumn
Horivent
Singulas
Daraxin - Beginning of Winter
Cosvoia
Entropus
While the relevant celestial influences are, again, redundant in a multiversal organization, for cultural, religious, and celebration purposes solstices and equinoxes are considered to occur on the first of the relevant month, also marking the beginning of their season. For instance, the vernal equinox is both the first day of spring and the first day of the new year, occurring on Novastra 1.
Digital Citizenry
Although biological lifeforms may have been the first to develop sapience, in time they would not be the sole example.
With the advancement of electronic computing technology, digital individuals eventually became a reality.
Though the nature of their creation means their mental structure is comparable to organic brains, they are ultimately beings of data.
This nature means they can freely move through a parallel digital world, also accessible by organics through Virtual Reality equipment.
A set physical form is by all accounts optional; individuals who live entirely in "Cyber Space" are not uncommon.
Others—especially those actively working with the Ketsui Intiative—choose to take on a symbiotic role to Explorers or Researchers, "linking" with equipment to offer expertise and companionship in the field.
It is both policy and law that digital individuals are legal persons with all associated rights.
The creation of such persons is treated with the same gravity as biological reproduction; creation of life demands responsibility—that's the very definition of parenthood.

The (currently generically named) PDA is a rugged, high-end handheld computer and communicator designed to assist in almost any situation. Personal identification, emergency survival, and engineering are among some of the many tasks the PDA was designed to assist with. It is capable of operating independently or as a platform and relay for digital personnel to directly interface with other electronics.
The overall shape of the PDA is based on the devices commonplace in the REM-Cluster, with a hardlight screen created by a compact projector that also contains the physical processor and other electronics. The scalable form factor of the collapsible model is blended with the one-sided projector of a newer model to create a form factor that can easily change in size from smartphone, to tablet, to an inactive state not much larger than a dry-erase marker.
Despite its design basis, however, the PDA's hardware is almost entirely original "under the hood". While this does mean a lack of native compatibility with the devices it was designed after, the benefits of extra-atmospheric functionality and an operating system foreign to would-be hackers is well worth the loss of convenience.
A non-exhaustive catalog of features is listed below:
Stable yet high-energy power source ensured years-long battery life
Hardlight screen can either display full color or shift to monochrome to conserve processing power and battery life for more important tasks
Vital sign monitoring, including blood oxygen, nutritional estimates, and aura level
Sensors for atmospheric contaminants and ionizing radiation
Multimedia data storage and playback, including text, image, audio, and video
Wireless text, audio, and video communication, with extradimensional connection avenues meaning a lost signal is exceedingly rare—and even so, local area using radio waves still allows communication in several kilometers radius
Built-in camera and microphone for live video communication or broadcast as well as recording of audio, image, or video
Built-in flashlight with adjustable lens for wide or focused light
Physical plug at the end of the case that can be detatched and plugged into another device for a wired connection
Electronics are hardened to ensure it can be used in any situation and can take quite a lot of physical damage without functionality loss
Not reliant on Dust and therefore works even in the absence of an atmosphere, such as outer space

Settlement Listing
Page 1/2
TODO
NOTES: A settlement built based around a cliffside in a boreal forest, located in a generally mountainous region. Buildings are not only located on top of the cliff, but also down the side of the cliff along a sprawling network of balconies and plazas jutting out of the rock.
TODO
NOTES: a city built along a temperate coastline with a rocky beach. fairly mundane??
TODO
NOTES: known for lots of quaking aspen trees, an unusual climatic effect results in even healthy leaves being colored like autumn, creating forested surroundings constantly bathed in yellow with smatterings of orange and red.
TODO
NOTES: desert, maybe oasis? built in the shade of a massive spiky "wave" of glassed sand that is opaque enough to cast a shadow???
TODO
NOTES: beach. boardwalk. nice place they probably have funnel cakes idk
